We are frequently asked about the maximum income for a family to receive food assistance. The federal government has new guidelines regarding distribution of government commodities and the levels have risen from 130 percent of the poverty level to 185 percent; therefore, allowing more families to acquire food. A single person may receive food regularly, if the maximum monthly income is below $1,679. A family of four must make below $3,446. These changes have come about in large part due to the difficult economic conditions. Although a parent or parents may be working, often the jobs are lower paying, making it difficult to put food on the table after paying the necessary bills for the month. Please pass this information on to anyone you know that may fit into these new guidelines.
